Plasencia Alma
del Cielo
Leave it to Plasencia, one of the premier masters of cigar makers in the industry, to break the barrier, and altitude, of how cigars should be made. They’re launching their latest Alma del Cielo, a step outside of tradition and straight into the clouds. Most cigar tobacco is grown in low valleys, basins, and flat lowlands where the air stays warm, the soil is rich, and plants mature on a predictable schedule. That’s been the blueprint for years. The Plasencia Alma del Cielo does it differently. This cigar starts 3,500 feet above sea level, on a remote mountain farm in Condega, Nicaragua, where the nights are colder and the sun hits a lot harder. Plasencia decided to use tobacco leaves grown from the high altitude. Their goal was to create more flavor in their cigars that you wouldn’t get from leaves grown the traditional route. They managed to craft a blend with more tension in the flavor and an unbelievably rich cigar. That’s where the name Alma del Cielo came from, translated to mean “Soul of the Sky.” This line captures the richness of their high-altitude tobacco.
