The first iteration of Montecristo Espada was released five years ago, and quickly built a strong following amongst consumers. Like its predecessor, the Montecristo Espada Oscuro was rolled at the Nicaraguan factory of the world-renowned Plasencia Family. For over 50 years, the Plasencia Family has been one the premier tobacco growers and cigar makers in Nicaragua. Like the original, the Montecristo Espada Oscuro comes in three sizes and in boxes of ten, which makes it easier for the retailer to sell to consumers by the box.

“Espada” is the Spanish word for “sword”, which is meant to highlight the history and heritage of the Montecristo brand. Over 84 years ago, Alonso Menendez and Jose “ Pepe” Garcia introduced this brand name as they were inspired by the famous fiction novel, The Count of Monte Cristo. With this fantastic cigar, Altadis USA and the Plasencia family wanted to add a new chapter to one of the most famous stories and brands in the cigar industry. Using tobacco from the Condega, Jalapa, and Ometepe growing regions in Nicaragua, the Montecristo Espada Oscuro offers the consumer a profile consisting of bold, spicy, and rich flavors.
